Location

The village of Aptera has three tavernas and a kafeneion (1912!) and, by taking the back roads, you can easily reach the surrounding villages of Stilos, Provarma, Neo Horio and Armeni by car.

Peaceful and quiet, with the exception of local weddings, baptisms and name day celebrations, the village provides easy access (2km) to the National Highway and is a perfect base for exploring the area of Apokoronas and the wider area of western Crete.
The town has a port which is the second biggest of Crete and one of the biggest ports of Greece; daily and regular ferry services are connecting Souda to the harbour of Piraeus.

The port of Souda is one of the most important natural harbours of the Mediterranean. Today one can visit the still existing Turkish settles, the fish harbour but most of all you can visit the Alien’s Cemetery of Vlites Souda. 7km east of Souda you can reach Kalami, a small village with a few traditional houses and panoramic view on the bay.

The harbor of Souda is south of the large peninsula of Akrotiri. At the far end of the harbor there is a newly constructed fishing harbor that will provide facilities for small boats Souda Harbor provides all services.Whatever cannot be found in the immediate harbor area will be in Chania 10min away. The ferry boats to Piraeus also dock here.

In the middle of the bay is a small islet of the same name with a beautiful Venetian castle standing in its center.

Souda provides all kind of accommodations and entertainment and it is linked regularly by bus to Chania. From Souda one can visit the interesting surrounding region as well as Aptera which used to be a powerful city of Greece and where Roman and Byzantine remains and a Turkish fort can still be seen. Souda itself has banks, shopping and some taverns.
